Chocolate Rain By Tay Zonday is a 25 year old grad student who writes and produces his own music on the side. He claims:”I might do anything. No style is off-limits. No two videos are alike. From Bach to Tupac, Expect the Unexpected!”. Tay Zonday has been heralded as the next big thing in the world of popular music. His incredible voice is reminiscent of other greats like Isaac Hayes and James Earl Jones. This, in contrast with his young and feminine appearance has resulted in the incredible online success of his music.His voice is also a popular subject amongst discussions about him.HE made a comment on his voice mentioning:”Yes, I have a deep voice. No, I don’t fake it. Yes, I look young. I am 25 years old. I have never studied piano or voice formally.”

Tay debuted his single Chocolate Rain on April 22, 2007 via Youtube.com; the song became an instant hit and has been featured on the front page of Youtube.com and has over 2 million views with numbers increasing everyday.The song has an addicting and up-beat keyboard melody amongst dark lyrics.Chocolate Rain” is a deep and moving song that comments on the inherent problems with capitalist society.Chocolate rain has been played in clubs and on the radio recently.The video was filmed in Tay’s home studio.A distinct attirbute of the video is a part in the beginning where Tay steps away from his microphone to take a breath,and the text ” **I step away from the mic to breathe in” appears.

After the release of Chocolate rain,Tay was featured on the “Attack Of The Show” and The Opie & Anthony Show,a radio program which used Tay’s opening “Chocolate Rain” as a soundboard sound effect.Tay will soon be conducting interviews with FUSE aswell.Tay has also mentioned that he was offered the opportunity to play in europe and all across the US,buit turned down the offer,stating that he is a grad student first,and needs more time to focus on school and cannot tour at the moment,but mentioned that it would probably happen eventually.

The song has been remixed and parodied by many independant artists/fans on youtube in numerous different styles.VH1 recently went to Tays apartment where his original video was filmed to record an official parody for VH1’s Best Week Ever.Even more recently,Tre Cool,drummer of Green Day filmed his own parody of the song in a real studio where he forgets most of the lyrics and has a piano lead similar to Tay’s playing.
