Tropical Storm Gabrielle Heads for N.C.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle headed northwest Saturday, aiming for the coast of North Carolina, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. Subtropical Storm Gabrielle formed Friday night off the southeastern U.S. coast, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.



A tropical storm watch was posted for the Carolinas early Saturday as subtropical storm Gabrielle moved along a path that could bring heavy rains and high winds to the southeastern United States coast by Sunday morning, according to a 5 a.m. ET advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

The advisory said Gabrielle “remains poorly organized” with maximum sustained winds near 45 mph. The storm’s center was estimated to be about 315 miles southeast of Cape Lookout, N.C. and it was moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph, the NHC said.
